概要
ヴァイキング時代の北欧神話をモチーフにした世界観のSRPG。
ADVのように重大な選択を迫られることも多い。
全三部作に渡る内容で、本作のクリアデータを続編に引き継ぐ事もできる。
『風ノ旅ビト』等の作品で知られているAustin Wintory氏が音楽を担当。
戦闘中は戦況に応じて変化し、本作の幻想的な雰囲気に一役買っている。
続編のThe Banner Saga２，及び３においても担当している。
余談だがタイトルにあるBannerとは旗のことで、
主人公たちが率いるキャラバンに加わった者たちは、一員の証として
キャラバンが掲げている長い旗に各々の旗印を織り込んでいる。
